The client
AVIS is the leading car rental company in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia, covering
a total of 107 countries. With over 3,000 sites and staff of 5,600, the company has an
annual turnover of 2.1 billion. AVIS purchases annually 1.4% of all new cars made in
Europe, and has a total of eight million unique rentals. AVIS is famous for it's 'we try
harder philosophy'.
Client requirements
Through partnerships, AVIS was looking to move IT from a simple technology unit to a
solution and service delivery centre of excellence. As a global, real-time organization the
data network would have to form the foundation for this transition. However, following a
due diligence exercise facilitated by Vanco, it became apparent that the existing network
solution would constrain any significant progress.
The solution
AVIS sought a single unified solution from a single provider with a single service
guarantee and culture. With additional expectations of a ten fold increase in its
bandwidth over the next three to five years, AVIS specifically required:
- A solution which would be the basis for a legacy enablement project allowing the
