Created in Paris in 1949, Europcar is Europe's number one car rental company. Europcar owns an international fleet of more than 250000 cars and a network of 2805 stations (including 400 in airports) in 143 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Central America, the Caribbean, and Asia Pacific. Since 1999, Europcar has been part of the Volkswagen group – the first car manufacturer in Europe.

Client requirements
Europcar’s network was facing an increasingly high demand for rental car reservations, and therefore required very high availability. To ensure this, Europcar was looking for a supplier able to deliver a solution based on the following issues:

• DSL usage in every country
• Bandwidth increase
• Reduction in network costs
• Lower implementation lead times
• Management of disparate networks
• Central billing

The solution
Vanco designed and deployed an IPSec VPN with DSL access connecting the stations throughout Europe to the data centre in Paris. IDSN lines are used as a back up for the end-to-end managed solution.
